Beyond the Island

George Louis Berg, a native of Iowa, was a self-taught artist who exhibited with the National Academy of Design in 1918, 1919, 1920, and 1927. The titles of his artworks from those years, which include Over the Reef, Distant Shore, and Out to Sea reflect a deep affinity for marine and coastal scenery. He resided in Connecticut, but moved to California shortly after his final submission to the Academy’s annual exhibitions. The St. Claire Hotel in San Jose held a solo show of his work in 1937. He passed away in Los Gatos, California in 1941.
